This is a PCI-E 16x slot Riser card, allowing you to install a GPU/graphics card or other PCI-E 1x, 8x, or 16x peripheral in a different spot in your case (or even outside your case) than where the PCI-E slots are on your motherboard. For example, if you are building a gaming rig with multiple GPUs, are building a Bitcoin or Ethereum mining rig, or are using a Micro ATX case that only has space for a single PCI-E expansion slot but you want to install a double-slot GPU, you can use this riser to install it in a different physical location. This card can also be used to turn a 1x PCI-E slot into a 16x PCI-E slot, in case you do not have sufficient PCI-E slots available for a 16x device.
You insert the plug-in card into any 1x, 8x, or 16x on your motherboard and then the riser card provides a 16x PCI-E slot wherever you need it, within 24" of the original slot. The riser card receives power directly from the power supply via a 6-pin PCI-E connector. An adapter from a SATA power connector to the 6-pin connector is provided in case you do not have sufficient PCI-E connectors from your PSU available.Key Features

Important Instructions

• Ensure that the overhangon the 1x plug-incard hangsoutside the PCI-E slot on your motherboard, not inside the slot. The narrowest portion of the edge connector with the fewest contacts should be in the narrowest part of the PCI-E slot (see last image in the listing).
• If your GPU has its own power connector (e.g., an EPS12V), both that connector and the power connector on the riser must be connected.The power connector on the riser takes the place of the power that would normally be supplied by your motherboard; as such, it does not replace any power connections required from the PSU directly to a GPU.
  
• Throughput of a 16x card may be reduced when operating in the riser, as it only provides one data lane. Results will vary by card.
  
• The 24" extension cable uses a USB-A-3.0-style connector on both ends but it is not intended for use with USB 3.0 peripherals. Use the extension cable only with this PCI-E riser card.
