About this BuildThis is my first Windows 11/XP Hybrid build. Upgraded a still-factory-sealed HP Z240 Workstation tower with a faster CPU, additional hard drive, and GeForce GTX 960 video card. With this being a 7th gen Intel chipset (3 generations newer than supported by XP), getting XP up and running was a bit of a challenge, but I got it all working, including the nvme solid state hard drive. The GTX 960 video card is very nearly the fastest video card that will work on XP (beat only by the 970 and 980), but this card has enough horsepower for some light modern gaming as well.
Windows XP Setup
All drivers along with Supremium v124 (a recent Chrome project for Windows XP), Firefox 52.9 ESR, DirectX 9.0c, .Net Framework 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, and Visual C++ 2005, 2008, 2013, and 2015 Redistributables are installed. All drivers are installed, including chipset, video card, and nvme drivers.
Windows 11 SetupThis computer came licensed for Windows 11 Pro for Workstations, so that is what I went with. I settled on version 21H2, which is fully updated, and also installed Explorer Patcher for a Windows 10 interface and Open Shell for a Windows XP-styled start menu..
All drivers and updates along with the most recent version of Google Chrome are installed, as is a tiny app called "InControl" which prevents it from trying to further download feature updates.
Either OS is selectable on startup each time.
IncludedMain PC and a power cord. Computer is completely ready to go out of the box. OS is selectable each time you start up the machine.
