This is a dual-mode drive. It will connect to almost anything with a USB-C port, but the headline speeds need a Thunderbolt host.

Thunderbolt 3 or 4 Up to 2700 MB/s read and 1900 MB/s write on the 2TB model. This is the reason to buy this drive. USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Up to 1050 MB/s read and 1000 MB/s write. Still faster than most portable SSDs on the market. Power Bus powered through the host connection. No wall adapter, no separate brick. Hosts Mac, Windows PC and iPad Pro. Ships formatted APFS for macOS. On a Mac running 10.13 or later it mounts and works immediately. Windows users will need to reformat the drive to NTFS or exFAT before use. That takes a minute in Disk Management and is expected, not a fault.

Sealed, so contents are exactly as SanDisk packed them. The box has not been opened, which also means nothing has been removed or substituted.

Why This Drive

• Fast enough to edit off directly. At 2700 MB/s this is not a backup disk you copy to and from. It is a working scratch drive you can cut 4K and 6K timelines on without ingesting to internal storage first.
• It does not throttle. The aluminum core exists because sustained transfers cook cheap plastic SSDs into slowing down halfway through. This one is engineered to hold its speed through the whole card dump.
• Roughly a minute for 50GB. On a Thunderbolt 3 host, offloading a shoot stops being the part of the day you dread.

Before You Buy

• You need Thunderbolt for the full speed. On a plain USB-C port you get around 1050 MB/s, which is excellent but is roughly a third of the Thunderbolt figure. Check your machine's ports before paying for the Thunderbolt performance.
• Windows users must reformat. It arrives APFS formatted for Mac. Reformatting to NTFS or exFAT is quick and expected.
• It gets hot in use, by design. The metal body is the heat sink. Warm at idle and hot during heavy editing is normal behavior for this drive, not a defect.
• 2TB is the 2700 MB/s model. The 4TB version is rated higher. Some retailer pages quote the 4TB figures across the whole line, so the numbers above are the correct ones for this capacity.
• Thunderbolt on PCs is not universal. Many Windows laptops have USB-C ports that are not Thunderbolt. Look for the lightning bolt icon next to the port.
• Sold as-is with no returns. New and sealed, but please confirm compatibility before purchasing.
