Up for sale is the complete CD collection that originally shipped with a Packard BellPlatinum 55 Designer Tower with an Intel 133 MHz processor. That was the fanciest computer that Packard Bell sold at the time and included a built in Zip Drive, TV tuner, 28.8 modem, 8X CD-ROM drive, as well as a TopDrawer scanner and MediaSelect console. The Master CD (170802-04 MS# 000-42373) in this collection installs an early version of Windows 95 and the necessary drivers for all of the included hardware, as well as a host of additional programs.
The following is imprinted on the Master CD (1996): "This is a backup CD-ROM only! May be used only with a Packard Bell computer system. Will not function on other computer systems. The software included on the CD-ROM was pre-installed on your hard drive at the factory."While I didn't use the Master CD on other computers, I did successfully upgrade my Packard Bell using the software on that Master CD. I upgraded the processor from 133 MHz processor to 200 MHz, the 28.8 modem to 56K, but that also required a new sound card since Packard Bell's used a combination modem/sound card. As such, I would assume that there is some flexibility using this Master CD with closely related Packard Bell computers. However, that is NOT guaranteed.
