Here is a system Dell sold as a high end home PC in 2000. This month I tested and added an 80GB hard drive, replaced the battery, installed WIndows 98 SE and all necessary drivers and tested all hardware. It is now ready to install your favorite applications, from floppy diskette, CD, or from a USB flash drive.The first thing you will notice is the sturdy, heavy midtower case. Even with a DVD ROM, CD burner , floppy drive and hard drive installed there are still three empty drive 3.5"bays (one of which is hidden). This is an early ATX style case, with a 250W power supply.The heart of the system is an Intel motherboard with Intel's 815 chipset. It supports socket 370 Celeron or early Pentium III CPUs. The Intel Pentium III 1000 MHz processor is the fastest the BIOS recognizes. There are two 168-pin DIMM sockets for SDRAM up to 512MB. I include the original one 256MB PC133 SDRAM DIMM.
The Intel motherboard includes connectors for two PS/2 ports, two USB 1.1 ports, a parallel port and a serial port. The universal AGP slot contains an NVidia GeForce2 MX 200 graphics processor with 32MB of SDRAM. One PCI slot contains the original Creative CT5807 Sound Blaster Audio PCI with the ES1373 chip included by Dell. I removed the original PCI 56K modem because it took me too long to find a working driver (but will include it anyway).
