In the late 1990s, the NLX (New Low-profile eXtended) form factor was popular for slim-line desktop computers (like the HP Pavilion or Compaq Deskpro series). Unlike modern PCs where expansion cards plug directly into the motherboard, NLX motherboards plugged into this "riser" card, which then provided the slots for other components.
Key features visible on the board:
Expansion Slots: It has two PCI slots (white) and one ISA slot (black), allowing for old sound cards, modems, or network cards.
Integrated Networking: There is a 3Com "Parallel Tasking II" ethernet chip (Lucent/3Com 40-0483-004) and a Lucent transformer, meaning this riser added a LAN port to the computer.
Connectivity: On the back, connectors for Primary/Secondary IDE (for hard drives/CD drives) and a Floppy Drive connector, along with a standard ATX power input. this item has not been tested.
