1980's Perle Communications controller, with Zilog Z180, floppy disk, PDS350-31
Price: US $100.00
This is a cool bit of history, This is a Perle communications controller from the early 1980's. (all chip dates are from 1981 or before) This device is technically a computer (it uses a Zilog Z180, the successor to the famed Z80) that acts as an control system for a bunch of terminals linking them to a central server, or other data connection. They have many uses but I most commonly saw them in use at auto part stores (some still in use today) connecting all the registers and part look up terminals.
It has a floppy drive that it accesses on boot.
I was unable to do a lot of testing because I have no network to plug it into. However, it does power up, the lights on the back light up and flash several times then settle into a solid glow. The front display lights up and displays several codes as it boots.
It appears to go through all the start up process I am familiar with.
you would need a terminal, and more hacker knowledge than I have, but since the Z180 is backwards compatible with the Z80 and Doom has been ported to the Z80... It is quite likely that you could play doom on this...
I'll admit the cosmetic condition is a bit rough on this one, but I keep getting told I should do everything to keep these things away from the scrappers, so I'm listing it hoping somone is excited about owning one of these.
I've got it priced to where at least 1/2 of the cost is shipping.
