This adapter has more than 20 timestransmission range of regular USB adapter at Line of Sight . SuperLinxs UN-DRP17V20-M WIFI USB adapter provides users to launch IEEE 802.11b/g/n wireless network at 150 Mbps in the 2.4GHz band, which is also compatible with IEEE 802.11b/g wireless devices at 54 Mbps. You can configure this adapter with ad-hoc mode to connect to other 2.4GHz wireless computers, or with Infrastructure mode to connect to a wireless AP or router for accessing to Internet. It includes a convenient Utility for scanning available networks and saving preferred networks that users usually connected with. Security encryption can also be configured by this utility.

Normally when calculating WIFI range, it's based on same power equipment at each end, clear line of sight, no interference from other network. In these ideal situations, this item can reach miles. Unfortunately, environment is always complicated in the real world.
Please remember, line of sight is the key for long range WIFI connection. Couple trees on the way may not affect much, but can't be buildings or woods. Also in the city area, lots of interference from other 2.4 GHz devices, which will greatly decrease the range.
In a typical suburb, this unit can reach around 1/8 ~ 1/4 mile, based on good line of sight to the source WIFI network building(of course source router can't be in the basement etc.), or around 1/2 mile in the countryside. These estimate are based on home router at the other side, if you can use higher power radio or external outdoor antenna, range can be further.
To measure the range ability of a setup, please check the total dBm. It's combines the radio power, antenna gain and cable loss etc together. This combo has 50dBm.

Important facts you should know before offer:
This unit is directional, that means it only cover an narrow angle. When use it, you have to point it to the source with the white plastic side, not the metal side. With the USB cable point to the ground, it is a vertical polarized setup. Turn it 90 degrees, it will become horizontal polarized setup.To avoid possible network setting problem, plug it into the laptop, disable the built-in wireless card of the laptop, install the driver, use it very close to the signal source. Make sure it works, then bring it tothe distance location, try again. Turn the unit to different direction, try to get the best effect. While scan the network, don't more the unit.
Ifyou need aUSB extensioncable, make sure usea USB "active" extension cable (also known as a USB repeater cable). This cable contains active electronics which boost the USB signal for maximum reliability and performance over extended distances. Those passive cable won't work on long length. Range test result is based onsame unit on each end, in clear line of sight. Because every application is different, we can' guarantee the result. For long range link(>1Km, or 0.6 mile), we recommend you install external antenna for the router side.
