Here it is, Apple\'s first laptop computer. Very revolutionary for the late 1980s! This one has been completely restored, and is working just like it would have been when new. Here is a brief summary of all the work done to this fantastic Macintosh Portable:
- Logic board cleaned and recapped using high-quality parts (passes all diagnostic tests)
- New \"Hybrid\" module installed to facilitate proper battery charging and power
- Original battery rebuilt with a new 6V SLA AGM cell (9V PRAM battery also replaced)
- Floppy drive tested to read/write/eject disks
- 7MB RAM expansion card installed - brings total RAM up to the 8MB maximum
- Trackball rollers replaced for smooth operation
- BlueSCSI v2 added in place of original 40MB mechanical hard disk
As was mentioned, in place of the original mechanical hard drive, a more reliable BlueSCSI v2 drive has been installed which uses a 16GB SD card for storage. Because of the additional storage space available using an SD card, I have configured three hard drive partitions - each about 2GB in size. One has System 6.0.8, one has System 7.0.1, and the third has System 7.5 installed. This setup allows you to boot up into whatever version of system software you\'d like! I have also installed many applications, utilities, and some classic games (see photos). If there is a specific title you\'re looking for, I\'d be happy to see about preloading it for you.
Another feature of the BlueSCSI drive is the ability to browse the internet wirelessly. To get online, I\'d recommend booting into System 7.0.1, selecting your wireless network with the Wi-Fi desk accessory, and verifying the IP address assigned to the Mac. Now you\'re able to do fun things like FTP into Macintosh Garden and download more games or applications!
The LCD is in great shape with no obvious problems. It\'s not backlit, but is still surprisingly easy to see and use. The speaker is loud and clear. The battery and charging system is working great. To turn on, press any key - simple as that! These Mac Portables actually do get very good battery life despite how large they are.
