It can be tough to figure out whether your vintage Macintosh Motorola 68xxx-based SE, SE/30, Quadra, etc. Mac is working properly and reliably. Apple's Personal Diagnostic Software offers a quick and easy way to determine the exact configuration of your 68xxx Mac and to run diagnostics on the logic board, hard drive(s), floppy disk drive(s), etc.
Please see photos for examples of the output from this software using a Color Classic as a test subject. The first photo shows a report of the configuration of that computer. The second photo shows the results of diagnostic tests. The third photo shows one of several displays useful for aligning your display. The Moire patterns seen in the photos are caused by my digital camera. You won't see them in real life. (A Color Classic is not included in your purchase.)
In addition to these tests APD can be used to run benchmarks comparing your Mac to other Macs, to identify expansion cards, to align displays, and to loop tests. Note that this software works only on 68xxx computers and Power Macintosh computers from the Macintosh Plus on. You must be running System 6.0.7 or later (NOT OS X).Your copy of APD will be provided on a Macintosh formatted high density (1.4MB) floppy disk.
