Borland Delphi 1.0 is both a RAD (rapid application development) IDE and a programming language (formerly known as Object Pascal).

Delphi 1.0 was released in 1995 for Windowsas the successor of the highly popular Turbo Pascal development tool.Contrary to popular belief, Object Pascal had very strong object-orientated features from the start and gained additional language features like interfaces in later versions. But Delphi is more than just the IDE and the programming language. The feature-rich standard library of Delphi, the Visual Component Library (VCL), abstracts the Windows API with a nicely designed hierarchy of classes, components and controls. The VCL contains many useful classes and graphical controls to build great Windows applications in a short time.

• Easy to learn

  Learning Delphi is easier than learning most other languages. The Pascal-oriented language is clear and easy to read and you can learn the language very fast by just looking at other peoples’ code. As small software businesses often don’t have the resources to put a developer in learning mode for half a year, this point might be one of the most important. Although Delphi is easy to learn, one should never forget that developers are most productive in the development tool they already know. It could be a good idea to use Delphi for internal side projects first when it comes to learning the new language.

  
  
• Small file size

  One nice attribute of applications that are built with Delphi is the small file size. This is possible because Delphi applications are independent of a big runtime library like the NET framework. A simple graphical Delphi application is just about 300KB in size and can be downloaded even over a 56k modem quite fast. Because the files of a Delphi application are so small, software businesses can target customers over the internet much easier. Around 40Ͽf internet users in the United States are still browsing the web with 56K modems. In most other countries this number is even higher.   Delphi applications that are compiled as native Win32 programs are almost as fast as natively compiled C++ applications. This makes Delphi well-suited even for graphic-heavy and math-intensive applications. • Safe future

  Although there are always rumors about Borland abandoning Delphi, Borland demonstrated their commitment to Delphi over a very long time. Even applications that were written in Delphi 1.0 still work with only minor modifications in Delphi 2005. While Microsoft stopped supporting Visual Basic 6 and let Visual Basic developers down without an easy upgrade path to NET, Delphi’s future has never been brighter. • Big third-party market

  One of the best things about Delphi and its community is the big number of third-party tools and components. There are many high-quality free and commercial graphical components and libraries that can be plugged right into your applications. The good component model of Delphi encourages building reusable code and leads to this amount of ready-to-use components. Are all components of good quality? No, of course not. Like for all development tools, there are components and libraries of good
  and bad quality. But just dismissing all libraries and components because there are bad ones seriously reduces your productivity and I highly recommend taking a look at projects like Indy, JCL and FastMM4.

  
  
• Highly productive RAD environment

  The Delphi IDE contains a powerful GUI designer, refactoring tools, file versioning and other neat features that make writing code and designing great GUIs very productive and straightforward. Especially the GUI designer is very well designed and so intuitive that no other IDE can match the ease of use of Delphi (at least for me).

COMPATIBILITY:

Computers are like people, each one is different. Unlike other things, a computer program may install and work flawlessly on one system but may need adjustments on another. This is due to a variety of factors, mainly the OS platform running, video card you have, drivers, protection software installed, etc. Many times manufacturers release updates to programs to fix bugs and add enhancements. We would be happy to help get the game going on your computer, but ultimately compatibility issues are the responsibility of the buyer. We suggest going to Google and searching for the name of the program along with the words \"system requirements\" to determine if your system is suitable. Ultimately, we are not responsible for software compatibility problems or publisher\'s errors.

PLATFORM:

Stated within the sale is what platform the program will work on (ie. Windows, Mac, Linux...) This is a generic statement and specific platform versions (ie. XP, Vista...) will have to be researched by the buyer. Programs that came out PRIOR to XP or higher will not specifically state they will work on that release, but only because they came out before those versions were made. Many, if not most, will work on XP or higher with a few quick adjustments. We provide instructions with all items purchased on how to do this adjustment using the Program Compatibility Wizard. If we find out that an item will definately not work on a specific version, we will state it.

64-Bit Windows OS Systems:
For 64-bit Operating Systems, older applications most likely will NOT work due to 64-bit systems not being able to run 16-bit programming code (most applications prior to 2000).

Macintosh Systems:
For Macintosh programs, most older programs will need to be run in Classic Environment if you have a MAC OS X 10.0 - 10.4 version. Please research Google on how to do this, or send us a message for information prior to purchasing. If your MAC OS system doesn\'t support Classic Environment (ie. MAC OS X 10.5 or Higher OR Intel Macs), you will have to try running it using the free program called SheepShaver, but compatibility is not ensured. Please research prior to purchasing or ask questions.

MEDIA FORMAT:

Please verify you have the required hardware in order to use the specified media (ie. CD, DVD, floppy drives, etc.) If the item comes as a floppy disc, make sure you have either the needed 3.5\" floppy drive or the bigger and older 5.25\" floppy drive.

SHIPPING:

We typically ship all items out within 2-4 business days after payment is received. In regards to the stated shipping and handling, remember that these costs include more than just postage. We combine shipping and handling, with each additional item after the first just $2 more. Message us for an invoice if doesn\'t automatically adjust it.

International buyers not shipping to an address within the U.S. can expect their orders to take anywhere from 5 days to 4 weeks to be received, depending on how fast/well USPS is moving. Additionally, international orders typically have to go through governmental customs, which can delay the arrival process. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer\'s responsibility. Please check with your country\'s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to offerding or buying. Customs fees are normally charged by the shipping company or collected when you pick the item up. These fees are not additional shipping charges.
