Release in April of 1992, IBM OS/2 v2.0 was the first 32-bit version of OS/2. Work on a 32-bit version of OS/2, code named Cruiser, started in the late 1980s by Microsoft and IBM. After the release of Windows NT, development of OS/2 continued solely with IBM. A major new feature of OS/2 v2.0 was the user interface, also known as the Workplace Shell.
