The SystemBaseeCAN is a small CAN gateway connected to a CAN bus to transmit and receive with an Ethernet TCP/UDP network (LAN to CAN). It supports TCP/UDP protocol and comes with COM Redirector software, a virtual serial port generator. Developers write their own socket programming to use the TCP/UDP protocol to access eCAN directly, or use COM Redirector.

To write the source code easily, a DLL file and sample codes are provided. Additionally, eCAN comes with eCAN View software to aid in analyzing the CAN frame with a GUI. eCAN View has filter, sort, and display error count features. With the exerciser function, users can send a CAN frame to another CAN device. Its intuitive UI frame is convenient when analyzing a CAN frame.

TCP/UDP Protocol and COM Redirector

eCAN supports TCP/UDP protocol so that eCAN can be used with socket programming. It supports highly reliable TCP and fast network connection, UDP, with the use of a virtual serial port. The virtual serial port is available through COM Redirector software that comes with eCAN.

eCAN View – Exerciser

The exerciser function creates a CAN frame to send it to other CAN devices. The CAN frames can be set to a maximum of 4 where it can be set to an increment of 1ms and sent at the same time. When a user-defined CAN frame is received, eCAN will automatically respond to it. It is useful when analyzing remote frames for CAN devices.

eCAN View – Analyzer

There are two methods of display for the analyzer function in eCAN. First, it will be displayed as the frames were captured. Second, CAN frames will be displayed by IDs.

When the first method is used, it is easy to check the CAN frame in order. The second method allows checking frames updated by ID. It also comes with a filtering and sorting function to speed up the searching process. The users can set the range of the ID (standard or extended) in the filtering function to find the necessary frames. The sorting function has sort by ascending/descending or by ID, so when it is used with other functions mentioned before, it is easy to find the data frame they want.

eCAN View – Error & Detail View

The TEC (Transmit Error Count), REC (Receive Error Count), and LEC (Last Error Code) can be checked with eCAN View. By using these, when the users check the change of error counts, they can easily check the status of the CAN bus. When the CAN frame is double-clicked in eCAN View, the frame detail view window will appear to show more information about the CAN frame. This window will show the CAN frame field in each bits for the users requiring detailed information.

Provide Sample Source Code and Setup Utility

eCAN comes with a manual, DLL file, and sample source code for TCP/UDP protocol and COM Redirector software for developers. When connected to a website of its own, users can change settings or monitor the device. A windows based application utility for configuration and monitoringcalled eCANConfig is also provided.
