This three-piece stereo speaker set with built-in amplifier is in excellent condition. Designed in the 2000s for use with computers, laptops, video and gaming, it connects to the sound source via a 3.5mm stereo plug.
While created specifically for computer enhancement, it works beautifully with a smartphone or any device that offers a 3.5mm jack with output for headphones or earbuds. (Devices using a Lightning or other connector will require an inexpensive and widely available adapter, not included.)
The sound is rich and versatile (45 Hz to 20 kHz range) for a unit of its size, with powerful bass from the ported 18-watt, 5-inch subwoofer and distinctive midrange and treble from from the two smaller 6-watt, 2-inch satellite speakers. An ingenious wiring setup uses a knob on one satellite speaker as a master volume control and on-off switch, while the subwoofer has its own volume and tone controls for maximum versatility in a variety of settings and spaces.
The AC power cord runs to the subwoofer, with single audio cables then linking the satellite speakers in series, keeping wire clutter to a minimum while allowing nearly six feet of separation between satellite speakers and another five feet-plus of separation between subwoofer and nearest satellite speaker. This design lets the array function as either a desktop system or a small but powerful bookshelf-type system.
The system boasts classic Harman-Kardon quality in sound and design. The subwoofer enclosure is wood, 12 1/4”H x 10 1/4” D x 6 1/4” W, with a sturdy matte vinyl covering. The satellite speakers are heavy-duty plastic. 5” H x 4 1/4” D x 3 1/2” W, with unblemished speaker cloth. Includes all original wiring in perfect working order.
