IBM Aptiva E34,AMD K6 233 MMX, 64MB RAM, 8GB HDD + Keyb&Mouse Vintage Retro PC
Price: US $250.00
Up for sale is this excellent vintage PC desktop computer, an IBM Aptiva E34, with a K6 processor at 233Mhz with MMX capabilities, 64MB of RAM and an 8GB hard drive, ready to go for any fellow retrogamer or vintage computing enthusiast!
This listing also includes the matchingIBM model KB-8923 keyboardand an IBM S34 mouse, which I believe is a Logitech un/re-branded for IBM use. All you need to provide is a power cable and a display device (monitor shown in video and pictures is NOT included)The machine is in excellent physical condition with very few details, please look at the photos for this. Examples of damage:
- Area surrounding the floppy disk button looks like it\'s been scratched
- The bezel that goes in front of the CD-ROM has one latch broken on a side. But if you leave it in place, it will stay in place.
- There\'s one scratch on the top of the metal part of the case, as well as a bumpOther than the few marks and scuffs the machine looks really good, it even has the original stickers it shippped with.
Functionality-wise this machine is as good as it could have ever been in 1997. Windows 98 has been restored to factory condition with a few bells and whistles added (like USB mass storage driver addition so you can use a USB stick to transfer files), the internal hard drive is packed with entertaining software ;) and all drivers for this to work both on MS-DOS and Windows 98 are installed. Please look at the video in the sale to ascertain the operation of the machine.
Ports tested on this unit:
- Gameport ✅- 2X USB ports✅- COM port✅- VGA port✅- Audio output port✅- both PS/2 ports✅
The built-in 3 1/2\" floppy drive works fine. I include a FreeDOS boot disk to test it with. I also had to design and 3d-print a replacement for the internal eject button which is unobtainable.
The CD-ROM read the discs I inserted just fine, but may need a clean by the time this gets to you. This computer has 4! ISA slots in case you want to add a Sound Blaster audio card and whatever else you want. It also has 3 PCI ports, one of which I populated with a 3-Com network card (for that oldschool Internet flavour ;)), replacing the 56K modem it had, for it was both damaged and, honestly, quite useless nowadays.
The motherboard has on-board Crystal hardware for sound, which is Sound Blaster Pro compatible, and not too bad really as it works fine both on Windows and DOS, and an ATI Rage 3D-II video card which is more than adequate for 1997 standards.I have upgraded the RAM to 64MB from the stock 32MB, and there\'s a slot free for more upgrades.
I have even designed and 3D-printed the internal floppy drive eject button
As usual I have worked on this machine with the intention to keep, but found myself not giving it much love after I was done with the entire restoration process, which included replacing several ports on the motherboard. I just have too many other PCs from the same era!
It is time to let it go and pass along to someone that will give it the attention it deserves. It\'s a perfect kit for starting your MS-DOS/Windows 9x retrogaming adventure, standing between the 386/486 era and the Pentium II/III machines of late 90s/early 2Ks.
As usual, and because of the vintage characteristics of this item, returns are not accepted unless something radical has happened with the machine en-route.
