Rare 1978 Low Serial Number Apple II Computer in Box & 5.25" Floppy Drive in Box

This is a good condition and working Apple II computer. It has a very low serial number, #9849. The board was made & tested on the 41st week of 1978. I think this makes the unit less than a year after this model was introduced. Also, note the serial number sticker does not have the additional RAM upgrade version check boxes in which the later model had. The RAM has the original gold capped in the first row of 16K. This was later upgraded to 32Kb then to 48Kb judging by the dates on the RAM chips.

An Indigo Data Systems 16Kb Ram Card was then installed. The removed RAM chip from the motherboard is present on this card. It has a standard floppy drive card and a Integer/AppleSoft switchable card installed. This is the early version 600 card with tin edge connector, not the later 670 card, with the gold edge connector. It appears to be working. The computer has the raised power light on the keyboard, Rev 0., which is rare in itself.

The Computer beeps on power up. It boots DOS properly from the included Disk II controller card. This card appears to be original with the tin edge connector. The connector was polished, chips reseated, then tested good.

The top case, lid, keycaps, and keyboard have been washed and cleaned. The motherboard and cards were cleaned of all dust and dirt. All socketed chips on the motherboard and cards were reseated. The bottom tray was wiped clean.

The system looks good, but is showing signs of usage. The palm rest edges are worn. There are a few scratches and nicks on the case. There is a crack in the backside of the case between slots 2 and 2. Some one long ago also, violently scratched off the old glue for the speaker and used glue that has loosened with age. A strong two-sided tape is used to hold it down now.

The power supply does not look original but it is working and gives close to spec voltages. The keyboard is fully working. The Keyboard has been dusted and cleaned and same for the ribbon cable. The keycaps were washed. A couple of the key switches were replaced with working switches. Some keys are sometimes slow to return up, some have the double bounce problem. Two of the 74xx chips were bad and it was fixed with period correct sockets and NOS chips were installed. One of the Velcro-like pads holding the lid down was missing and replaced.New old-stock flat screws now hold the base to the top case. One of the motherboard stand-off broke and replaced with similar size with new old stock

.

The computer comes in an original Apple II Box, but the serial number sticker seems to be missing. This is not the original box that it came in. However when I purchased this computer, it was in this box. The model number on the box indicates that this is an Apple IIe box. I included some manuals that go with an Apple II Computer included is a rare Apple II Reference Manual. There are two software programs: Apple PILOT and Apple Writer II.

Also included in the lot is an Apple Disk II External 5.25" Floppy Drive. The drive is in the original box but the serial number were written on the box from the previous owner.

The 5.25" External Disk were refurbished. It was taken apart and the inside was thoroughly cleaned from any dust and dirt that had accumulated over the years. The case, faceplate, leaver, and cable were washed and cleaned. The head was cleaned and the travel rails were lightly lubricated. The drive boots DOS 3.3 perfectly and the LED is working. The drive is very quiet and the case looks to be in really good shape. There are a couple of tiny nicks and scratches but nothing too noticeable.

This is a really good lot and a ton of work went into it to make it as new as possible and working. Many of the chips were removed and tested in a chip tester and reseated. Nothing was held back in making it a nice machine. With all vintage items, there is the possibility ofdepreciation (wear and tear). Therefore, I am selling this as-is with no warranties.

The Apple IIc monitor is not included.

Please see photos for content and physical condition.
There is no warranty and I am selling as-is with no returns.
I work as high school teacher and the only days I can ship are a few days on Monday, and every Tuesdays andThursdays. I don't ship on the weekend because my box store is not open on those days, I am busy testingand posting computers for sale, and I want to spend some time with my family. Thus, I place a "3 daysto ship" toaccommodate these issues.Thank you for your understanding.
I only use Global Shipping Service on International Order, no exceptions.

I will ship to Hawaii, Alaska, PO Boxes, and PR, even though I have a block on these areas, but they will be subject to paying exact shipping cost that will be calculated. Please ask prior to purchasing the computer.

policies leave me with no choice but to mark each of my sales with a “no return” policy. This is being done to protect me against returns such as (buyer’s remorse). After using the item for days and weeks, the buyer can submit a return and is not obligated to reimburse the seller for shipping charges and I have to pay for shipping charges back. Even though it is marked a “no return, “a buyer can still submit a return if the item was not as described or the item was damaged during shipping. Also, I do not need an policy to do what is right and accept the item back if it wasn’t as described or damaged during shipping. Keep in mind, that I mainly sell vintage computers and vintage computer accessories. That said even though the box/item may not show damage, the internal mechanism may have been damaged or jarred from a rough truck and/or plane ride. I will work with ALL my customers to resolve the problem. Recently, I have had to take back items where the buyer didn’t check with mom/dad, husband/wife, or God prior to buying and did a return. forced me to take the item back. Personally, I do not think that this is an acceptable way to return items. Many of the sellers on here are just trying to provide for their families and this kind of previous return is not fair to the seller. We are not Walmart or Costco that cannot absorb these financial damages. Again, I will work with all my costumers to ensure that they are happy with the item they purchased. Thank you for your patronage.
