Historic IBM Germanium \"Computer\" TransistorType 153
Date Code “6132” (Made the 32 week of 1961)(Approximately 60 years old)
Information from Jack Wards Semiconductormuseum Web Site:
“Throughout the 1950s and into the early 1960s, IBM continued to manufacture transistors.By the mid-1960s, IBM had ceased the manufacture of discrete transistors. The last transistor type to be manufactured in-house by IBM was the germaniummesa device, identified as types 151 – 165...\" (type 153 presented here).\"The germanium mesa transistor was the “speed king” of other types in the late 1950s.Also of note is the fact that a photolithographic process was used during manufacture, which was a key factor in ensuring consistency and reliability. The mesa type was eclipseda few years later with the advent of the Fairchild silicon planar transistor…These represent the final production transistor types manufactured by IBM.”
The “153” is in a TO-18 package with long leads with unique \"dual plating\" on the leads.See the photos...the leads have a gold plate near the top, and silver-solder plate near the bottom.
These are NOS (New Old Stock) unused parts. These are rare, working germanium transistors.
