Rare Vintage 1960’s IBM Model 214 Executary Portable Secretarial Dictation Unit
Price: US $500.00

IBM Model 214 Executary Portable Dictation Unit With Microphone, 4 Magnabelts, Original cardboard mailing insert, and a set of 6 unused index slips. Everything is in excellent almost Mint condition except the batteries. All 5 C batteries included are dead and possibly the original batteries from the early 1960’s (see pic). May have only been used once because one of tapes left in the player, begins with a man’s recorded voice, possibly left in the 60’s. Has a Built-in carrying handle that can be pulled out revealing the battery compartment lid release button. Playback either through microhone or speaker in unit.

This unit records dictation on a 4 inch magnetic belt called a Magnabelt (a mylar belt coated with a ferromagnetic material), that can hold up to 14 minutes of recordings. A sliding bar can be used to perform a complete erasure of the belt in six seconds. Separate index slips could be inserted into a slot on the machine and marked with a hole by pressing the index slider bar that allowed the user to select which portion of the belt to play. Magnabelts could be folded flat and put into an envelope for posting and each belt has a serial number to aid identification.

This unit is like new and hard to find in this condition. The original drive belt was old and was replaced. This is an amazing machine. These were priced around $300 when released.
