Resound 2 OPL3 – 8 Bit ISA Adlib Compatible Sound Card - by TexElec

This card is the little brother to the original Resound OPL3 4-Channel card. This card still uses the Yamaha YMF262 / OPL3 IC and YAC512 DAC to produce stereo output. It maintains compatibility with the Adlib card or OPL2 for all of your favorite DOS games. It is also an 8-Bit ISA card designed to work in any IBM PC or compatible with an ISA slot. The original Resound (soon to be renamed to the Resound 4) has 4-channel output, user selectable IO & an audio input for chaining external audio sources. The Resound 2 has 2-channel output, fixed IO @ 388h and no external audio input. It is designed to be low cost and easy to plug in and use, like the original Adlib card. The Resound 2 outputs a line-level audio signal, just as the original Resound does. This means an audio amplifier and speakers are required. The Resound 2 is a little quieter than the original Resound and should work with consumer-type audio amplifiers of all varieties. Adlib / OPL2 Compatible for use with 1000s of vintage PC Games!About the Chipset and DriversThis card uses the famous Yamaha OPL3 chipset, used by many popular sound cards in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. No emulation, it uses a real Yamaha YMF262 IC to do the work. The OPL3 is backwards compatible with the OPL2, so any game or application written to use an Adlib sound card will also work. We tested this card on Windows 95 OSR2 and Windows 98 Second Edition and found that it works great with the Adlib Gold driver. This driver loads the OPL3 driver for windows and supports all of the features of the OPL3 chipset. See the last pic above. (Win98 auto detects the card at install, but we had to add it manually on Win95.) Please note, this card will not playback wav/digital files, it is an FM synthesis card only. The OPL3 is the sole provider of sound.

It also explains some of the technical details of the card in more detail: can also see a review of this card by Lazy Game Reviews aka LGR from YouTube: note, the boards may have different parts than pictured but retain the same functionality. Over time, some parts are discontinued, or change colors and we update them as needed.
