(Version 7.0.0b1) Persistant connection Can this speed things up?
I understand what it can do, and i think my server
allows it. Is it an advantage to have it Enabled?
Thanks in advance
Off, unless you REALLLLLLY understand what it does. You need/want to balance the number of apache children to the number of MySQL connections allowed or you face the possibility of either locking out your forum users or locking out other users on that server.
If you're on a shared server never use this, period. If you're on a dedicated server and have the time to monkey with Apache and MySQL setups, then sure, use it. You save an amount of time that the human eye can't detect and an amount of memory that today's modern servers don't care about.
Mark, it's not worth messing with, is your simple answer.
