I agree with the saturation and availability. Everyone is fighting for your custom now and offering blogs, chat, forums, etc. and if you're not a "schooly", domain registration and server space costs next to nothing today and you also get a lot more space and bandwidth to play with.
I think when I started I had 50MB of server space and 5GB bandwidth limit and it cost a fortune. Then you got a message saying "This site is not available due to excessive bandwidth useage" and had to wait until the 1st of the month before it came back on!
