Should overwrite both:
forums/images/general/default/favicon.ico

And:
forums/images/general/default_dark/favicon.ico

OR, as I recommend, take and make a new directory, copy the imageset you use into it, then modify images there; so when you upgrade in the future you don't have to worry about overwriting your images wink
