I guess I just found a way of hacking this from a post by Gizmo where he explained how one could assign the off children of a parent to a new thread id,
Which one could go ahead and delete that new thread, whereby effectively truncating the old thread. Or at least that is my understanding of what Gizmo said, unless I have miss understood his post #215593 on :
