Don't have a answer for this. But I tend to agree windows default backup sucks bigtime.
The only way I know it will work is to install a second drive that is at least as big as your primary drive. Forget about trying a cdrw or dvrw. If they are not big enough the ms software just barks back at you. It will not span multiple disks no matter what they say.
