I think it says somewhere in the portal
settings that they will always appear on the
portal page Left and Right.

So if a user has the right de-selected,
they will see it at the portal page.

I think its going to be a hack,
as there isnt any options in the CP.

It would be a nice touch to have the option

Islands on Portal Page Visible YES / NO
