I am unsure why MyISAM is recommended in this thread. It is no longer even in active development.
You are replying to an old thread that has several links to the source reasons why it was recommended. For example, unless changed on the server, heap defaults to size of 16MB and is the reason why when hitting that celling, this temp table would cause the crash described in this thread discussion.
