That's not what I said. Re-read above. If there are NO replies to the post you're deleting, then it totally disappears. If that particular post already has replies, then it has to leave the placeholder post. That's because you can't remove the middle link in a chain. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> You can't have a reply to a deleted post.
So delete the replies to it first, then it won't leave any trace. If you're unsure what post is in reply to what, view it in threaded mode. But if you delete a post which has replies, it has to leave that placeholder there.
