I am still running 6.4.2 because of the downtime an upgrade requires. We are currently bogging down with 1,100 simultaneous visitors and need to be able to grow beyond that point.

Both our web (running Threads) and our database (running MySQL) servers are Dual AMD Opteron 246 2.0 GHz with 8gb of ECC RAM and SCSI Raid hard drives. They are connected together via a private 100mb Ethernet.

Our Posts table has 1.3 million posts in it. This represents about 6 months of posts for us.

Will upgrading to the latest (last?) version help with performance? Are there any other tricks that one can use to help? Any suggestions at all would be very welcome.
