Downloaded latest version of Classic UBB to Mac XServe running build 10.1.5. Get past all of the tests with no problems/all "OK"s listed.

Go to conrol panel, enter paths, name bbs and press submit. Get the following message:

Content-type: text/html

Software error:
Missing right curly or square bracket at ubb_lib_files.cgi line 7039, at end of line syntax error at ubb_lib_files.cgi line 7039, at EOF Compilation failed in require at ubb_setup.cgi line 137.

For help, please send mail to the webmaster ([email protected]), giving this error message and the time and date of the error.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Typically this means that some files were uploaded in binary, or weren't completely uploaded at all.

Try uploading all the files again, making sure to use ASCII mode!

Let us know how it goes <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the reply. Tonight spent several hours uploading all the files per instructions...still no go...receive the same error. All other tests run perfectly.

I'm using Captain FTP to upload files.

Could I be getting some sort of error when I use stuffit to expand the .zip file? I d/l another copy of the trial version just for grins and unstuffed, but again but same outcome...

Try using WinZip to unpack the zip file and see if that makes a difference.

If you are on Mac, then I would recommend finding a program similar to WinZip (I'm assuming you are on a mac due to Stuffit <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> )

Stuffit on the Mac will unzip the files properly since I've done it a dozen times or more on my two Macs.

Well, I tried Ron's tip using a unzip app and got past the cp.cgi setup. (THANKS!!!)

I'm now busy trying to test all of the features to make sure all the available control panel configurations work. The only one I've run into problems with when I go to Forum Properties->Forum Details and then try to upgrade forum settngs. I get the following error:

Undefined subroutine &main::TrialVersgi called at /Library/WebServer/Documents/cgibin/cp_forums.cgi line 171.

Sigh....I'm trying not to bug you guys...after all Mac's are easy...right? <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Any suggestions?

Macs are, sure, but this is Unix we're talking about here. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

That's a REALLY odd error message - did you copy & paste it?

Charles:
Yes, I cut and pasted that from the coniguration message window...I can post a screenshot if you like. Still haven't been able to resolve the issue, but that may be a mute point as...

Tonight I'm going to update my XServe by doing clean install of Server OSX 10.2 from 10.1.5. After that, I plan to purchase classic and install within the new OS and really get serious. (I've seen enough, and I like it!)

Just thought if anyone knew why I was getting this particular error message now, I could forego the pain of replicating it again during my new install.

Ron:

Charles is right...OSX isn't "my father's Oldsmobile" <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> That's why I don't give my Windows friends a hard time about seeing a C:> every once and awhile, if they don't give me a hard time about running Mac OSClassic sometimes to use some of my older apps. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Thanks again guys...this is going to be fun...er, I think.

This problem is going to need to be examined in detail. Please open up a support ticket so we may do so. Thank you!

(Very, VERY odd problem. Please ask that the ticket be assigned to me. Thanks.)

Charles,

Thanks for the response, but I had already purchased a full license and reinstalled the full version classic software since your last post. It is working fine.

Yesterday I couldn't say "paying customer"...today, I guess I are one... <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I'll let you know if I run in to any problems with the new install, but as of yet, no problems.
