I'm trying to install the demo version of UBB6. I've followed the directions including setting all permissions and such.

But when I try to run ubb6-test.cgi I get the following error:

Quote
Software error:
'criptDir' is not a valid variable name at /Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables/ubb6_test.cgi line 67

For help, please send mail to the webmaster ([email protected]), giving this error message and the time and date of the error. Content-type: text/html

Software error:
[Thu Jul 5 14:41:50 2001] vars.pm: 'criptDir' is not a valid variable name at /Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables/ubb6_test.cgi line 67 BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables/ubb6_test.cgi line 67.

For help, please send mail to the webmaster ([email protected]), giving this error message and the time and date of the error.
FYI, the permissions on that file and the cgi directory are as follows:

Quote
drwxrwxr-x 54 root admin 1792 Jul 5 14:41 .
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 25011 Jul 5 14:41 ubb6_test.cgi
The only thing I changed in the ubb6-test.cgi file itself is the perl path, which on my machine is:

Quote
#!/usr/bin/perl
Please help!

Thanks,

Jeff

ps. the url to my control panel is:

cp.cgi

The only thing non-standard about my installation is that I'm using VirtualHost in Apache, but I don't think that is causing the problem.

It seems to me that perl is failing somewhere. I'm running Mac OS X 10.0.4.

I initially added the T switch to my perl path, taking a que from the printenv and test-cgi scripts that were in my CGI-EXECUTABLES directory by default. This didn't work and I (randomly) changed the switch to "s" and suddenly it worked.

Then I had to reinstall the ubb demo (I deleted it before installing my licensed copy) and now I can't get it to work again. no flag, T or s, nothing works.

Any ideas? Please help, otherwise I just wasted $200. I've tried installing the full version from scratch too but get the same problem. At least I know the demo worked at one point.

my other scripts run fine using:

#!/usr/bin/perl

with or without any switches. so maybe it's my permissions:

You should also have a nonCGI directory set to 777 with the Templates sub-directory and contents in it. There should be a Modules sub-directory in the cgi directory. (full version)

Run hello.cgi from your browser. The file is in the help directory. Copy and paste the output in a post here.

Also, post the exact URL to your cp.cgi. Something very weird is happening and I suspect it is the server. Be sure you uploaded all files except the graphics in ascii (text) mode. If you unzipped on the server, use the -a switch (unzip -a filename.zip) or whatever is equivalent on the Mac OS to preserve text files.

hello.cgi output:

Quote
Hello world from PERL 5.006

.cgi scripts are mapped to Perl.
I've added the ubb directory. I previously had that in the directory with my webpages. Misunderstood the wording of the directions I guess.

The exact url to cp.cgi is the following:

http://www.astro-photos.com/cgi-bin/cp.cgi

I suggest you fill out a trouble ticket so Infopop techs can look at yhour site. That is one strange error message. The script is not being read properly. Are you sure you used ascii (text) mode and that all of the files in the zip distribution (except the help files) have been uploaded?
