Recently I've been getting a few emails from members saying they never received their conformation email with their user name and password.

In each instance I've tried sending it to them via my control Panel / User Information / Send Password. Below is a snapshot of the error that's produced~

In the above example I registered as test123 and made my email address [][email protected].[/] When I registered I never received a conformation email. Above is the error I receive when I attempted to use the control panel to send myself my password.

I'm running UBB 6.6.0

My UBB

Thanx in advance for your help!

That error is being relayed back to the user from your mail server. This is not a UBB error.

Please speak to your host about the error, as only they will be able to look into the problem.

Thank you for the reply Charles. I kinda figured it had nothing to do with the UBB but I figured while I'm waiting for my web host to get back to me it wouldn't hurt to see what you guys thought.

Thanx again!

Charles,

One other thing...

Is there a way I could disable the "confirmation" feature and simply allow users to pick their own password? This way they don't have to wait for an email from me that there never gonna get...well at least until my web host fixes the problem.

Thanx for your help!

I did search through the Control Panel but came up empty. Maybe I'm just not seeing too good <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

This definitely is possible, but I can't give you the exact step-by-step since I'm still using 6.5...

Registration Settings in your Control Panel. Then uncheck the Validate User Address option and submit.

Ron, Thanx a million!

Now for the big question. While I'm waiting for my web host to find a resolution for my problem I have a ton of new members waiting for their passwords. With 6.5.0 I could get their passwords via the control pannel. With 6.6.0 that is no longer an option. My question is....

Where can I go to find passwords?

Thanx again for all the help. You guys & girls are great <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

We removed the passwords from the control panel for a variety of reasons, including future encryption support.

The passwords are currently still stored as plain text on the second line of each member file. They're numbered based on the member number, and are logically located inside the Members directory.

Thanx for the password info Charles.

BTW, I heard from my web host. Get a load of what they told me...

I was told that the mail server is configured to send no more then 300 emails per hour. Once this limit is reached a 24 hour period of inactivity must be established in order for things to reset themselves.

That of course is an issue considering the fact that the only way I can stop people from requesting their password is to totaly shut down the board for 24 hours. In addition that's the last things I want to do.

I did changed the setting in my control panel (thanx Ron) so that users can choose their own passwords as opposed to the UBB sending them one. But I can't stop people from requesting their passwords.

The funny thing is where are the 300 emails coming from? Certainly not from new registerations...not it a 24 hr period at least??

This could even be people using UBBFriend, and the report post function also. Those also generate mail.

Thanx Ron! I never consider those two features. Now I'm certain there's not going to be a 24hr period of inactivity.

I guess I'm gonna have to ask that my web host go out of their way and attempt to do the reset from their end.

I'm still having a hard time believing my UBB is sending more then 300 emails in an hour. That's a lot of email!

Thanx for all your help <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
