I am running the latest version of UBB.Classic 6.6.2 and I just decided to run the UBB Accelerator. When I ran the test script I got these results...

UBB.classic Accelerator should have no issues under this version of PHP. zlib compression is installed and will be used.

But when I turn it on and look through some pages I get this error...

Accelerator Error:
I can't seem to create the new counter file (
/home/cyndy/cynthiapreston.com/ubb/cache-GAZGPVXA/ubb_files/counter/2004-01-cache.cgi
)
Check that its parent directory exists. Perhaps the path is incorrect?

Any ideas? I turned the Accelerator off until I get this resolved.

Set your permissions on the counter directory to 777 and see if that helps.

I just did that and tried and I still get the same error message.

Does 2004-01-cache.cgi exist at all? If not, try creating a file with that name and giving it wide permissions - 777.

I did not have that file so I created it and did a chmod 777 on it. Now when I turn the Accelerator on I get this error...

In the pntf directory I just have these files...

(Note: That the Accelerator was turned off when I did this directory listing.)


By the way, the error doesn't appear until I go back a level on the message board.

So for example I will turn on the Accelerator and then go to the main page of the board and it is fine. Then I will go into a forum. Still fine. Then I go into a topic. Still fine. But when I click on a link to go back a level (to see the list of topics) or go back to the main board page is when I get these errors.

Do the same thing with now-accel.cgi that you did for the other file.

It seems to work now that I did that with now-accel.cgi.

But my question is, what happened? Did I do something wrong?

No, this is an issue with PHP. Due to the way most hosting providers install it, it can't see the filesystem very well.
