Hi all.
I clear my cache fairly regulary on my V 6.5 running on Unix. But I seem to get a "fatal error disk space quota" error message regardless. Sometimes I clear the cache and I get the error in a few days. Sometimes I clear the cache and I don't get the error for 4 or 5 weeks. Usage on my board is constant and it isn't very busy so I don;t believe that is the issue.
Any ideas how to remedy this other than clearing the cache maunally every day or two?
Thanks in advance.

Getting more webspace from your webhost would be good as I believe that error is from running out of disk space. Additionally you should look to upgrading to 6.7 as it would also be beneficial.

Thanks Gizmo. I guess part of my question is also inconsistent length of time between clearing the cache that this error occurs. Somethimes 3 days later, sometimes 3 weeks later.

if a bot spiders the board, your cache could grow in one day. The cache grows whenever a non-cached page is viewed. If everyone reads only the one thread for 5 months, you'd have a couple pages of cache and you wouldn't run out of space.
However, a spider would look through every page, leading to caching of every page, eating up your webspace

Aha! And the trick to blocking spiders on the board is.... <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

nah, the trick is getting more space. Your users will do it more slowly, but you'll still face problems eventually. Space has gotten ridiculously cheap recently, so if you're host charges a large amount to upgrade your storage, you might want to look into a new host.

OK...now the question is "what is enough".
I just cleared my cache and was told I was at about 100 mg. I now have 200 mg. limit.

Generally "double what you're using", the cache can grow quite quickly. With my forums I make sure I have at least 300MB freespace; if your board is taking up 100MB I'd reccommend double if not tripple free space for growth and caching.
I would never reccommend turning off the cache or blocking spidering; web spidering will bring a lot more users to any forum, caching will speed up any forum as well.
And Ian, if he wants my choice of ISP he can always read my signature.
