I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on how to incorporate a news feed into a module or perhaps a forum itself (if this is possible to automate- where each news item becomes a thread ). I'm looking for a free news feed on topics like fishing and outdoors.

It is not possible toautomate and so each item becomes a thread - this would be an excellent feature if available It would open a lot of possibilities.

I would also love to do something like this. I get a Google News Alert each day for a couple of topics related to my message board and would love to have some way to incorporate them into the board somehow. I would be happy to know how to do it in a content island and would even be willing to update the news manually...but some automatic system would be great!
If anyone has any good ideas on how to pull something like that off let us know... winter

'eh you could form the output anyway you wish ... And I had a couple decent ones when helping a friend with his site... lastRSS is the one i made him go with, it has a cache and works relatively well; and supports multiple feeds from an array... They have several decent demo's showing that it can be customized; and it's a relatively small script (well, organized)

I have a RSS Feeder which i purchased and use on my home pages to gather the info from the big boys to make me look good lol... But i tried many times to get it working in a post island, and couldnt get it to work Its java script and i think it was probably clashing with a simular function name that Rick Has used. Java's not my thing so it was difficult for me to trace the problem. The other thing would be caching the results to be honnest or every refresh is going to cause the RSS to pull the link again. Gizmo if your board i could send you the code, as this is somthing i would really like to see in my post islands too.
BOOM !! Version v7.6.1.1 People who inspire me Isaac ME Gizmo

Mark, message me the code and Ill take the gander. I really like LastRSS as it natively caches the content to a directory you indicate, and it works fairly well .

I like the Google Gadgets and I have found one that I think I could add a couple of RSS news feeds to and get some custom new for my users. But is it possible to incorporate this code into a content island? I would post the code but it does not wrap and shows up as just one really long line that stretches off the monitor... UPDATED....never mind I got it to work. If anyone is interested in seeing how it looks here is the link: http://www.aspergerinfo.com/forums/ubbthreads.phpIt is located in the bottom Right Hand corner of the page. Now another question: Any way to figure out what type of load this would add to the server and the amount of bandwidth being used? I have an ISP who hosts my site and I would hate to get a nasty email from them or a large bill for using tons of bandwidth. Thanks, winter

I tried incorporating the following custom island for a news feed. The feed worked fine but what bothered me is that when pages would reload the islands would expand to take up the whole page for about a second and then the page format would return to normal. Is this unavoidable? or did I do something wrong? Thanks. Here's my custom island code:
/* PHP CODE HERE */
/* BODY HERE */ $body = <<<EOF <script type="text/javascript" src="http://p3k.org/rss/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.2theadvocate.com%2Fsports%2Foutdoors%2Findex.rss&align=center&width=120&frameColor=f5f5eb&titleBarColor=f5f5eb&titleBarTextColor=5e8a00&boxFillColor=f5f5eb&textColor=black&fontFace=Arial&maxItems=4&compact=1&showXmlButton=&javascript=true"></script> EOF;
