I just upgraded from classic to threads 7.1 and I am totally confused on making an attachment even though I made one. But how will my members feel when they try?
I am posting an attachment to this post to see if it works the same as my board. and yes it looks the same.

I open the post topic form. Enter a subject text.
Must enter a post text(Required?). Select File manager, select browse, then select file, then select add file,then select done and I don't see anything in the post that reflects that a attachment is inserted in the post(no img tag- nothing).
None of this is documented anywhere.

Question 1 Where is something to hint that the file is in fact attached (ubb code?)or where it will be placed in the post? Can you change the attachment to be placed at the beginning or middle of the posting?
The preview does not show it.
The only way you know it is there and where is when you select submit and then it shows on the post.

Question 2 Is this the way it is supposed to work?
If it is, can a moderator move this to the feedback suggestion forum?

Attachments at the moment will always be at the bottom of your post.

Its been requested for attachemts to have some kind of positioning in a topic.

A work around its a "Upload Topic" where members up load
there pictures and then link to them to appear in a post.

At the end of the day its a to classic members so it
will be welcomed

I don't understand this part Mark

1. "post content" means the text inside of your initial post (see how you reply to a topic? that's your post data).

2. "inline" images are images that show with an image tag in the post, showing the image to everyone; the image will show inline based on two variables. A. It must be under the "max inline image size" set in the control panel, this is to stop users from uploading very large images and expecting users on slower connections trying to load them all. B. the filetype must be set in the control panel as well to be displayed inline (I think the default is jpg, jpeg, gif).

The attachment options can be located in the CP as:
CP -> Master Settings -> Feature Settings -> Attachments Tab

• Allowed Attachment File Extensions (.gif,.jpg,.txt,.zip,.png)
• Maximum Attachment Size (Maximum Attachment Size)

The "inline" options can be located in the CP as:
CP -> Display Options -> Primary Tab -> Topic Display Options Dropdown:
Max Size for inline uploaded images

All i done was made a New Topic and Called it "Upload Topic"
In that forum, enabled uploads.

So if a member wants to upload a image and place it in
there post, they can?

Well the simply make there post as normal
but using the [img] tags link to the image they uploaded
in the "Upload Topic".

Its used rarely to be honest.
But its an option

Well Gizmo what does that have to do with the price of eggs in texas . Regardless of what the setting is and if you get an inline image on a file attachment it still does not show any indication that the image or file is placed untill you select submit.
If Marks statement means that you can upload a file and them use something like a ubb img tag how is a user supposed to know the path. Back in the classic days I used the ELY upload hack and I think it is feature rich compared to this.
I just feel this is totally confusing to offer to the average user and expect them to take advantage of this feature with little or no documentation and at least some GUI interface as to what is going to happen when they post.

Mark you responded while I was typing but I guessed what you meant. How is the user supposed to know the path to the file?
Unless they have other means to upload such as a FTP Account?
Oh had to turn on some lights typing in the dark is not good without spell check.

If you use the upload system, the file, or image, will ALWAYS be placed at the END of your posting.

What Mark is sugguesting is that you create a forum in which all threads can post attachments; then after a user posts in that forum, they take the URL to the uploaded graphic and use the image tag in another posting in a new post/topic elsewhere on your forum.

When you see it working you can tweak it more

what i surmise is that you'd like the img tags to appear in the textarea for the just uploaded image (not for .zip, .txt etc). actually, it would probably be appended at the last saved cursor position in the editor's textarea. possibly even using ajax and act like gmail attach? maybe even auto-generate inline clickable thumbnail(s), when file dimension go over certain x,y limits?

this would be a modification to current core and (if you can handle mods), check ubbdev and even ask over there about it. (it's been done)

When a user clicks on File Manager, its an empty box.
Using the directions i gave in the link,
you can enter all the helpful information you need for a user.

When they upload the first file it then lists there files.
If you give it a go you will see its a neat little trick.

Members soon catch on and help each other
