Do you remember living during these times, and not just having seen it on TV or in the Paper at one time or another?


DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN ...?

All the girls had ugly gym uniforms?


It took five minutes for the TV warm up?


Nearly everyone's Mom was at home
when the kids got home from school?


Nobody owned a purebred dog?


When a quarter was a decent allowance?


You'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny?


Your Mom wore nylons that came in two pieces?


All your male teachers wore neckties and female teachers
had their hair done every day and wore high heels?


You got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped,
without asking, all for free, every time?
And you didn't pay for air? And, you got trading stamps to boot?


Laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box?


It was considered a great privilege to be taken out to
dinner at a real restaurant with your parents?


They threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed. . .and they did?


When a 57 Chevy was everyone's dream car...to cruise, peel out,
lay rubber or watch submarine races, and people went steady?


No one ever asked where the car keys were because they were
always in the car, in the ignition, and the doors were never locked?


Lying on your back in the grass with your friends
and saying things like, "That cloud looks like a "


And playing baseball with no adults to help kids
with the rules of the game?


Stuff from the store came without safety caps and hermetic seals because
no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger?


And with all our progress, don't you just wish, just once,
you could slip back in time and savor the slower pace,
and share it with the children of today?


When being sent to the principal's office was nothing
compared to the fate that awaited the student at home?

Basically we were in fear for our lives,
but it wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc.
Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat!
But we survived because their love was greater than the threat.

Sounds like fun, but that was nothing like my childhood... Living in fear for ones life every day wasn't nessessarily something someone wants to remember...

Though I can still get coke in the original bottles, but it's imported from mexico... And I had some blackjack last week

Wow - wouldn't THAT be ultra non-PC now. I could see lawsuits these days. In Australia, we had candy cigarettes which were called "Fags" ... so even a bigger PC sin.

<sicker> there is a store called Fuzzywigs at Pioneer Place mall, they sell all types of hard to find candy, including Candy Cigarettes... My mom offered to play chofer tonight so we have to go to the theater she wants to so no fuzzywigs for me tonight .

Every single one except beanie and cecil. Don't remember that one. The rest of that hit home, definitely.

Well I remember them all and you were around for Cecil there David you were probably just watching one of the other 10 or less channels at the time (not like the 200+ of today)

Sure thing not a problem for me. All I did was take the time to put it together so as not to point you guys to a site with a ton of popups and advertising. You'll have to host the pictures as I only allow UBBC and KiXtart.org to view them.

I figure it's not really plagurism as many websites out there with similar, same content so no way to know who to really give credit to.

Wow, that does bring back some memories.

Now it just needs a few more, like when the remote control for the tv actually had a wire attached from the remote to the tv.

Speaking of which, when I was little I was the remote control. I could be in bed and my Mom or Dad would yell at me to come turn the tv for them. Sitting there as they'd watch a channel for a minute...nope, not that one, click...another minute, nope not that one....oh, go back to the last channel....nope keep going. You won't believe how happy I was when they got a tv with an actual remote control

Did you guys ever see the TV that had a Clicker?
It looked like a remote but made a terrible click and the
TV would move on a channel....

This was so funny as one of our friends as kids had one
so when we visited him we used to clap our hands as hard
as we could as we waited out side. Then his pops would shout
will you kids " P off" lol

We were changing the channels on his state of the art TV lol

Was it " P off" or "Nick Off"

We were the remote controls too - tho it helped we only had 3 channels

Everyone knew to be quiet when the news or gunsmoke was on - I bought my dad a 'best of' dvd for gunsmoke and bonanza for father's day this year

I remember the rest except for the gum and I think studebakers were before my time - my dad owned one tho

I can remember going to only certain gas stations because they gave more S&H Green stamps than the others

We have (had) a family cabbin (now owned by my uncle so I don't plan to ever be invited again) which had an ancient TV, I remember having to play remote AND antenna! hehe...
