Here are some suggestions I would like to make:

• Public polls
• Nested and Hybrid display modes
• Drop-down search box, including a checkbox to search only in the current forum.
• Search function for user list, similar to what UBB.classic offered.
• Bring back the pagination routine for page numbers (i.e. 1 2 3 ... 8 9 10) in threads, forums, and in the userlist.
• Theme selector at the bottom of the page rather than in the user prefrences.
• A scroll box for threaded view, with both vertical and horizontal scrollbars. This should reduce clutter for long threads.
• Remove the intermediate redirect page when editing posts. Redirect directly to the edited post instead.

Loving it!

Good list. I'd like to add: A clickable icon, maybe in the Naviogation header, that could be clicked to turn on and off teh side boxes, so they don't have to go into My Preferences. If it were very easy to do from the main page, then maybe some folks who like to keep them off most of the time, would click them on once in awhle.

Also:

• A WYSIWYG editor.
• The ability to expand post window horizontally as well as vertically.

And a cup holder too

and a way to ignore 15 character replies

And a built in Gizbot...

Also:

• Display the date and time a thread was created next to the author's username. This would be in addition to the date and time of the last post in a thread.
• Bring back the sorting toggles at the header of a forum. This should be available in addition to the menu-selected sorting.
• Bring back an expanded view option to forums. This view may be preferred by users who read threads in threaded view.

For the record... Pink burns... lol...

I love the idea of a "captcha search" option (guest search).

Well many of those search items would require some JOINS which are an expensive (high impact to the server) search. Many small sites could probably handle it but some of the bigger sites would just about lock up if all those search features were enabled.

There would need to be some other mechanism in place to allow only a couple advanced searches in a given period and alert the user to about it as well. Then it might be possible, otherwise without some type of control in place I think the big sites would be upset when there system crawled to a halt.

I could be wrong but it seems more like you're attempting to mimic some other application. Just seems like way too many suggestions for out of the blue design ideas.

RE: Fonts, I don't like this idea... The admin should only allow "common" fonts, which are likely to be on every system, vs allowing users to use fonts which chances are no one has installed... for example, I have about 200 fonts, now maybe 5 of those are the stock windows fonts... And only a couple of those are generally "common" on other systems...

BTW, I believe the 7.3 featureset is locked at this point, so you're looking at 7.4+

Well, if the font is not on the user's system, it could display the forum's default font instead (usually Trebuchet MS). I think there was once a mod for UBB.classic that allowed this.

What I think would be nice is, the user can choose and set their default ubb font & color in there my preferences instead of having to do it for each post

If the font isn't installed, it shows the forum default... that's how it is in every html document ever in the history of everything

i'm one that I want everything to work and look as intended, so again, against the idea for the same reason... If something is inserted one way, it should be displayed as such...

Now font and color based on defaults, sure...

Again, i do want to see a setting that allows you to NOT HAVE TO see stupid colors on users posts... It can be incredibly hard to read, especially for visually impared users... Especially ones who have difficulties differencieating colors, and users who post in pink :looks up:

This would be easier to implement if UBB.threads used a WYSIWYG editor.

Sorry to bump, but since you are a beta tester, do you know about the features that will be included in 7.3? I would like to know.

At this time only developers have access to that code as far as I can tell.

Yes we do (to some extent), however, due to the nature of the beta forum, our NDA, and features which haven't been publicly noted, I can only reference those which currently exist in the changelog.

I hinted with my "unable to differentiate colors" mention lol... These light colours just blend into the white so I have to quick quote to read anything...

well, to be blunt.. it sux!

take for example the <b> tag. that's going away, according to w3c.. we're really moving toward more css based stuff..

so colors, underlines and all that could just as easily STILL be in the pull-downs in the editor, but would translated to the theme specific (css'd) version of what it would be.
