Ehr, I might be on the anti FF side (I'm not saying it's a bad product, I just see no reason why I should switch), but how can a specific browser be a life saver for developing websites?

My daily life confronts me with the fact that you have to test everything in all of them to make sure get what you want.

well, for debugging, FF > IE.. take web devolper, firedebug, livehttpheaders, switch proxy, Fiddler2, phpDebugger toolbar and poof..

much better for debugging: php, ajax and .js and DOM / css related stuff in general.

oh and for when i need to see what it looks like in IE, i just 'view in IE tab' laugh

right now, i think you are at the stage where Quai Chang Cain was before he finally snatched the pebbles from the master's hand.. go for it dude !! [Linked Image from sirdude.com]

It's a distant memory now - but I vaguely remember Cain explaining how....

I do tables to get things on the right spot, I use frames, know absolutely nothing about css (except how te spell it), and somehow I'm able to get on screen what I want smile The only new stuff I know are the quirks of xhtml.

Coding itselve is my game, and a game I play pretty well. I am pretty good at learning along the way without any real indepth study on languages I stumble upon.

So for debugging stuff, I don't know the difference between browsers. But for just surfing the web, I don't see any reason to pick FF over IE (or the other way around for that matter).

Well I know a few.

My Bank does not support FF
Microsoft Game Zone does not support FF (for some games)
MSDN uses an inline tree view that FF does not support

I do use FF now though for most browsing as it's blocking works better than IE7 (especially when using other plug-ins)

Other good FFox uses:
Tidy - (x)html compliancy, (x)html validity.
Color Picker - Get the hex value of any pixel in your browser from the current page.
YSlow - See why the page takes so long to load.
Browser Timer - catalog how much time you spend both online in general and at each site.
No Squint - set font sizes on a site by site basis, so hard to read sites are no more.
webmaster toolbar - allows tweaking of values on some sites (including hidden input variables which can be fun)
XRay - see in-line the html values of a page as they occour

Hundreds/thousands of useful addons (and millions of crappy ones)

Have never been able to "get" the whole IE vs Firefox thing. Why can't people use both? In fact, if developing websites, we really should use both.

I use IE for most things, but I use FF too. laugh

Same boat for me Rose.

For some reason there are those that often take a very personal level of interest in such things as though they were part of the development.
There are some that don't really care about the merits as long as it's not made by Microsoft.

What ever software you use, if you're happy with it, that's fine with me. Just don't feel you have to spend your time or life trying to get me to convert unless I've asked you about it.

You def need both especially if you are developing stuff. I use ff for everything I can, some you do need IE though. Nothing makes more more mad than a site that forces you to use a certain browser or the site wont work. What I do hate is I have FF set as my browser but internally when using lets say messenger it will open up IE to check mail from messenger. If you set it as your preferred browser it should be honored by whatever OS you are using.

Actually think there is a fix for that (not certain) but was reading something similar on a site recently.

Might want to do some searching for a Reg mod to make that happen.

I kind of blame the browser if a site doesn't work. There's standards on paper that firefox lives by, and standards in real life in the actual world.

My biggest problem with FF that not everything works in it. If I use something, I want to use it for everything, and I don't like to switch for site X.

Sometimes it's a good thing; it reminds us that so many people use IE.

It's a pain having to check every site in several browsers, but I guess the majority of users are still using IE - so we have to!

No need to guess when you have stats, 85% of the themepark.nl visitors are using internet explorer. 12% Firefox.
