My users would like an extra Active Topics option for 8 hours (or even better: allow them to set one option themselves using x hours).

page 1's most recent topics will most likely contain that. i don't see the pressing need...

matter of fact, 7.3 will be just 'active topics' and you don't choose the initial dataset. of course, you can choose after that: 24hrs, 48hrs, 7days..

if you needed it, that would be a simple deal for you to change for your forums though
