Hi, I don't mind admitting that I know nothing about ipods LOL However my daughter has asked for one. Of course the first challenge is to find decent prices here in the UK. However the biggest issue is trying to work out which is the best model. They seem to have several 'new' versions... new ipod nano new ipod classic new ipod touch ipod shuufle Which is the better 'new' ipod? I am guessing she will basiclly use it for music, although the top 3 all do video, so that might rule out the shuffle. I guess my question is what is the advantage of the nano (the one she has asked for) over the classic and touch. She is only 11, so if I get her one, I would like to make sure money is not wasted and she gets the best option, and not just one that her best friend has. Oh and I have no idea what form of music these things take LOL not sure if you can upload MP3's etc., on to it.....

Bottom line (IMHO) - she is a girl and goes to school with other kids and it has to fit in with the other kids. If you're going to buy one, buy what she wants, otherwise you'll be the one to hear it all the time. If it's not the "cool" thing with the other kids then that's a NO NO LOL - As they get older it doesn't get any easier on the gift buying

Get one of the ones that does video... BTW, I prefer the NOMAD Jukebox by Creative Labs; they where there before the IPod, and they'll be there after it too ...

Well, basically, the shuffle allows you to "shuffle" your songs (randomize); it's a waste of time imo... especially at it's tiny size... If I had to go with an ipod, i'd likely go with the nano, classic, or touch... The touch is like an iphone minus the phone... The nano and classic both do video as well. Difference from classic and nano: the classic has an 80gb/160gb version, the nano's max size is like 4/8gb... All compliments of my best friend Wikipedia

Which one did you end up getting her, Ian? I have the ipod classic, and love it. Although for an 11 year old I'd probably get the nano. I'm with ntdoc though - it's all about trends and images at that age - get her the one she's asking for.

nope - not me - my children no longer live with me following the slip it up between my wife and I - sadly the children haven't quite learned the cost of things.
Just because she has a couple of thousand pounds, it doesn't mean she should waste it all.
