Can a small javascript be used in the default header of HTML includes that would be used on each forum page ?

If so if just adding the script code or is other HMTL requried to make it work ?

What would be different in instead adding the script to header insert or default footer when only javascript code is added ?

You can add javascript to the header or header-insert or even footer box in the General Display section that will then work on every page in your forum.

all worked out OK and javascript usd in header doing as I wanted in now prevents people copying our text or image content.

Too much of our techie content on forum was being copied and pasted to other forums and this now reduces our content being ripped off.

That "No rightclick" script only works in IE -- Firefox and Safari ignore it.

Anyone who wants it will still be able to get it... I feel that if it's true techie content, they'll likely be easy to snag it...

All they do is anoy, easy to subvert... Many methods at that...

Understood that this is not a 100% failsafe method but at the same time if it makes it harder for some then it has a use.

90 % of my users are using I.E and the popup informs them of copyright as I have found others taking our content and when caught claimed they had no idea content was copyrighted

Bet you I could subvert it in IE and FireFox within a matter of moments

But Gizz... IF a person subverted it on purpose then they obviously demonstrated that they knew the image was copywritten. Does what it's supposed to do.

I'd imagine if they gave a crap they'd read a copyright notice in the footer as well ...

This is not about hackers, it is the general user who knows mouseover and not much more.

IMHO, The forum software should have more protection of the forum's content

Trust me, if Rick starts building in javascript to "protect" content and bloat the product, users will go elsewhere...

In my opinion, such tools are out of scope of forum software and better suited for 3rd party coding sites...

In any case, there will always be a way to subvert such tools, by more ways than just using other browsers, right clicking and pressing the space bar then letting go of the button, edit -> view source, etc etc etc.

I have this in my TOS, "When posting photos please keep in mind that other users may cut and paste or copy your photo from the posting to show others."

If some one really wants it they will get it no matter what you do. If they can see it then they can get it.
