Hi. Is it possible to change the default under Forum Options so it is Opt out rather than Opt in. On the board I use, it is Opt in. I find it much better if I am automatically notified of posts in a thread I have posted in. Thank you.

Allen,

No. I was just trying to figure out if it's possible on a board I help moderate to change the notification procedure. As it is, when you post and then save it, you have to go back to the Topic Options as on here and choose to add the topic to the watch list. I forget at least 50% of the time. It would just seem to make more sense to automatically have the topic added. You could then opt out at any time.

Thanks.

I'd be against it myself... Every user who would respond to any topic would be subscribed to that topic... That's a LOT of subscriptions and a LOT of outgoing mail for even a small forum...

Thanks Gizmo, I didn't think about it that way. I guess I have always been a preferences guy. A lot of my software doesn't have enoguh preferences, although the programmer I use tells me it isn't the easiest thing to program in. But, I suppose for the more hard core users (if that would be the term), choosing the option to opt out rather than in would eliminate many of those who respond as you suggest.

I belong to a lot of users groups. I love the way Experts-Exchange does it.

Thanks very much for your input.

You can put it in, and it is easy... simply edit the full reply page template and put checked=checked in the input box's check box code...

i was just saying, your webhost won't like the amount of messages going out, and I doubt you'll like the amount of users saying your forum is spamming them to their isp
