I got a request from some users to be able to turn off the language/style chooser. They have choosen their style and language, and have no desire to see it on it each and every page.
I would like it to be userselectable if you want to see it.

Can't they just ignore it?
Whilst there is an option to select the language from 'My Stuff', it seems a little daft to have another switch to show or hide it in the footer.

I just hide it via a stylesheet change; personally I don't like it lol

The first thing I did was comment that out of the footer template
<!--//
<form method="" action="" name="prefs">
<input type="hidden" name="curl" value="{$current_url}" />
{$styles} {$langs}
</form>

indeed however the OP indicated that some people wanted it hence the reason why I did not suggest hiding it for all

None of my members wanted it because they never saw it to begin with. To me, it's redundant and silly to be on every single page. "Set It, And Forget It"

What happens if you run two languages and someone visits as a guest speaking the other language - what do they do then?
Although not possible at the moment (AFAIK) the style would be ideal for someone using a mobile device to change on the fly to this to see the forum in a better way.

I would vote for some button that sets a device to a specific mode. Extra cookie value that either displays threads normal or on mobile mode. Would be irritating having to switch every time you switch device.

that's detectable automagically because the user's browser will indicate if it's a 'mobile' so no buttom req'd, if done properly

Although I have a larger screen on my mobile, so actually prefer to often view regular screens rather than mobile. Therefore a switch should be included.

No mobile setting necessary for iPhone (most of the time)

No mobile setting necessary for iPhone (most of the time) It's not just the looks of the site, it's also often a matter of reducing datatraffic.

Because the Edge Network is horrifyingly slow. less to transfer makes it less painful to use.

My phone has HSDPA, but speed isn't really the issue. More the cost of the data traffic. I don't know if you around the globe are on flat fee data heaven on your phones, but I'm certainly not

Most phone companies charge an arm and a leg for it too... It's crazy that if i use more than 5mb it's like $5/mb after...

I get unlimited traffic (although they like you to stay below 10Gb/month) for £25 ($50) per month - but that includes the ability to use VOIP over the connection.
However we get stung if we use it abroad £7.50 or $15 per MB!!!

hopefuly the EU will crack down on this fairly soon as they have done with voice calls and make it cheaper.
I object to paying excessive fees when I am using a network abroad owned by the same company that I use here (T-Mobile) - they are taking profit twice.

AT&T currently only charges $20/month for iPhone data (plus another $10/month for unlimited texting)... but I have a feeling that's gonna go up significantly. :/

It'd be suicide for them to charge more; the unlimited everything plan is already higher than the competition... And yeh, if you have the foresight to sign up for unlimited data you can save money with them ...

AT&T's Blackberry and PDA data plans range from $30-60/month, so they could easily raise it

I think the language/style chooser is a bit of a waste. I think i will be hiding it.
I have English Reading visitors and no extra languages included.
Not sure what i would replace them with if i did.
So if i have only the one Language, will still show up??
