Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /xxx/xxx/public_html/forum/libs/ubbthreads.inc.php on line 838
How can I change the setting to a different number of seconds?

This is a php.ini setting - http://uk3.php.net/manual/en/info.configuration.php#ini.max-execution-timeAs default max_execution_time is set to 30 in php.ini Therefore for some reason whatever you are doing is taking longer than 30 seconds to execute. Rather than changing this figure, I would investigate to see if you have added something to threads to affect this, or if there is a server issue that is affecting this.

I haven't added anything to Threads, so I guess it might be a server issue. Everytime I try to edit a medium-sized post I have to wait 20+ seconds or get a time-out message.
What setting do I need to change on the server to alleviate this issue? This only happens when editing posts. Server is quite powerful in terms of processing power (multiple Inter Woodcrest) and has 4 GB of RAM.

I would contact your host regarding it - whilst you can increase the timeout via php.ini I would be more concerned at investigating why it is happening.
There maybe something else on the server dragging it down.
Is it a dedicated server? What is the current load like when you get this issue?

It's a dedicated server. I even moved up to a dual Woodcrest with 4 GB RAM, and yet this is still happening.
This happens regardless of the server load, which is close to nothing most of the time. Could it be a mysql setting perhaps?

Not sure to be honest - mine is also set to 30 seconds which is the default, hence the thought that it might be a server issue rather than a threads issue.
Maybe someone else can assist.
Sorry.

Well it has to be a server issue as I've never modified anything. The big question is what can be wrong with the server setup if I cannot edit a decent-sized post?

not sure - but have you contacted your host and put in a ticket - might be the best initial option
