(I am posting a new thread hopefully for the benefit of others who might be doing the same)

On my current forum, when we approve a new member, we click the

Member cannot Send/Receive PMs:

box, effectively making it so that they can't use PMs.
(We then turn them on manually later when they have posted some).

I'm glad that 7.3 gives us a system to do all this automatically.

My question:

When I upgrade to 7.3, what happens to all the members who currently have that Member cannot Send/Receive PMs: checked?

Are they brought in to 7.3 still unable to send/start/receive PMs? Does that particular setting stay intact?

Thanks

I cannot say for certain, but as it was previously an individual setting and is now it is group based, but my guess all those members would now have the default settings of 'users' group.

Best bet is to log in as one of those members and check.

I cant remember reading what settings are carried over
and how there integrated.

I'm hoping they come over ok.
As rick in the past has had the import stuff covered.

Unless willing has a test forum with his data
its a bit of a leap of faith IMO

It is called 7.3 Final for a reason isn't it?
Meaning the answers should be somewhere?

My educated guess is that the old field is just dropped.

I missed somewhere down the line it was dropped. Because we use it seldomly, it's kind of a waste to add a whole user group to threads just because of a ban for PM's.

"Just because of a ban" being a waste will depend on if it is important to you or not.

Not too important smile

We mostly just ban a user completely if missbehaving on something.

No sense in just taking away just one part of the cake if he can still keep eating the rest of the cake laugh

I know, the world wouldn't be a better place if everyone would think like me laugh
