I'm not sure what is going on but I have lost forums. When I go to the Forums Setting Screen some forum entries are blank. All that is there in the Category that they belong too. If I click on details I can see some of the data. In MySQL I can find the entries on the table. They are not visible to the Forums Listing for members. When I try to fix one another disappears!!!! It seems like there is a pointer problem.
ANY IDEAS???? HELP???
I don't want to move to 7.3 with the database in this shape.
Thanks Larry

Does it happen only to you or all users that visit the site? What if you clear the cache in CP
May want to also do a database repair/check

Only happens when I try to add new forums. Cleared cache already. I'm not up on MySQL but I just found a Repair/Check option in my maintainance panel. I ran a check. Two table got the comment that the Storage enginr for the table doesn't support check. Table were ONLINE and TOPIC_VIEWS ALl others were OK.
Thanks

IF check didn't ind any errors, is it OK to run the "Repair" anyway? Not being a MySQL person, I'm not sure what may happen. I assume I should close down the forums while doing this?
I just don't want to take a bad database to 7.3.
Any and all ideas are welcomed.
Thanks

My forums are now in a self destruct mode. Every time I have to do a change to a forum one disappears. I can enable it but the description is gone!!!.
I can't move to 7.3 in this shape.

Try firing up phpmyadmin and looking directly at the ubbt_FORUMS table and see if the forum is still in there.

Hi Rick: I've done that and they are there. I was able to cut and paste some data out of them and create new forums but when I do another forum or 2 would disappear. Now this morning I'm playing with the Forums in the Control panel. I can move some of the entries that get wiped out. I should say whose pointers get wiped out. It looks like the "enabled" indicator, title, the "order" and description for each of those forums is all that is lost. The posts are all there. While playing around trying to figure this out, I realized this problems only seems to occur when I used that Category screen in the control panel to assign and order to the "lost" forums is when the problem occurs. I'm beginning to think the Category Maint screen code is corrupted. Maybe I'll upload a fresh copy of it from my PC when I get home tomorrow. What's your thoughts?? And thanks for responding on Mothers' Day.

New status. the problem occurs when I update anything on the Category or Forum summary pages. If I go into the Forum Pages and select Details I can change the title of the forum and enable it, even assign it to a different category and all the post are there for it. (I haven't checked them all, but I will.) Currently, I have them all in categories that only Admin can view. I'm letting them sit there until I can be assured the problem will not mirgate to 7.3. Don't know how that's going to happen but ......

Doesn't anybody have any ideas about moving to 7.3 with this problem. I don't know if I have a data base problem or corrupted code. Right now, if I have to changed anything on the Forums Settings or Category pages I go back to have about 20 forums lost and it takes about 2 hours if keyboard time to get them all visible again. Can't go on like this. Either I don't make any changes or I start and new data base.

My first move would be to upload fresh files of whatever version you are currently using (taking care to not overwrite any files in the /includes, /styles, and /cache_builders/custom folders). You could have corrupted files causing the issue.
Since this isn't an issue endemic to any threads version, you can be pretty sure it's something you've done. Which means it should be fixable by uploading the unedited files - check permissions and uploading techniques (ascii vs. binary, etc.)

Allen: Thanks for the response. I haven't played with any of the code but it does seem to me that something changed. The problem occured a long time after I had 7.2.2 running. I'm going to upload the code for the Forums Settings or Category pages first because that seems to be where the problem is. Althoug it is possible that it's in a piece of code common to them both. I'll think I'll look at the code for them both first looking for a common piece of code. This will probably take me a while.

Well, I've ddid like Allen suggested. Then I used the Forums Settings Page to re-order 2 forums.. I lost 33 Forums - all disabled and Title field blanked 1 forum was just disabled. These are the last 34 forums in the Forums Setting Display page. At this point I have no idea what to do. I have changes to make to the Forums for the new fishing season and a new release to install. I have no idea what happened, but my site will be useless shortly as similiar sitescatch up and users start migrating to those sites.

Best bet at this point is to open up a support ticket so I can take a closer look.

OK, Rick. I upgraded to Silver and submitted a ticket. Thanks.
I think you can follow this thread and get a hold on the problem. I have done what Allen sugest and refreshed all that code.
Good Luck

suhosin strikes again. For anyone following along or comes across this in a search. suhosin is limiting the amount of form variables that can be passed to the script and discarding the rest.

The ISP has changed some parameters as Rick suggested and all is fixed. THANKS RICK!!
They also must have changed some other parameters because the site is flying this morning.
Now I can fix up the lost fields, enable the "lost" forums and move on to 7.3!!

Yep, Allen, that suhosin. Many hosts just install it and leave it with all of the default settings. Many hosts think all it does is block insecure requests. They have no clue that it actually limits the amount of variables that can be passed.
On some of the admin screens, we can POST hundreds of variables if there are many forums, and the default suhosin setup will end up just dropping everything larger than what the limit is.

Just out of curiosity I checked phpinfo (Suhosin Extension 0.9.23). Do these settings seem okay?
suhosin.post.max_array_depth 100
suhosin.post.max_array_index_length 64
suhosin.post.max_name_length 256
suhosin.post.max_totalname_length 256
suhosin.post.max_value_length 65384
suhosin.post.max_vars 2000
I assume that's the section you're talking about.
GangsterBB.NET (Ver. 7.6.1.1) PHP Version 5.6.40 / MySQL 5.7.23-23 (was 5.6.41-84.1) / Apache 2.4.54 2007 Content Rulez Contest - Hon Mention UBB.classic 6.7.2 - RIP

Yeah, those look good, the max_vars is the one that's pretty important as that's the total number of variables that it will allow. They are allowing 2000, so that should cover it.

You know, the same can be said about "Mod_Security" in reguards to people using the default (anal) settings...

Rick: Check the trouble ticket. I added something. I'm not out the woods yet. I checked withthe ISP, they set the limits to unlimited. Now I have new forums showing up on the forums list but not on the CPanel - Forum Setting page. When I added the 3rd new forums the first 2 disappeared from the forum listing!!
