A few users have complained that since the 7.3 upgrade their new Private Message icon is blinking but when they click on the icon it takes them to the inbox where there are no new private messages. Or in the case of new users it takes them to a empty box because they haven't had any private messages yet.
Any ideas?

I have set the user_total_pm to 0 for all members. As soon as they log in that count goes to 1 and it flashes even though NOTHING exists in ther PM window?!?!?

When I change the user_total_pm to 0 with the user logged in and they do a refrsh - everything looks good. If they log out, then log back in it comes back. So it must be doing something at the login phase that is changing this value from 0 to 1 and it is driving me crazy!
Please help.

Hello,
I am having a problem after the upgrade to 7.3. Users are being told by the PM icon that they have a new message. When they click on it they do not have a new message and they may not have a message at all.
I have reset the user_total_pm to 0 for all of the users, and that works if while they are logged in already they hit refresh. Once they log out and back in again, the flashing PM icon comes back.
Does anyone have an idea as to how to fix this. I have let users know that I may have to delete all PMs, but I don't even know if that will correct the problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this? It is really starting to become and annoyance.

In 7.3 there is no rebuild users option in the CP. At least in the three that I have installed that is the case. I have run the rebuild on all options as well - no difference.

the only way I have been able to fix this was to go into phpmyadmin, go to the user in questions pm data and delete the pm that is causing this issue. It is clear which one is causing the issue.

No idea. There are hundreds. Is there a way to show them all as read. I can't figure out the date code at all.

The quickest/easiest way to fix this is to mark every PM as read for that particular user. You'll need the userid and the current time in seconds, for example: 1213616430 is the current time.
update ubbt_PRIVATE_MESSAGE_USERS set MESSAGE_LAST_READ='1213616430' where USER_ID='#'
Replace # with the userid in question.

set MESSAGE_LAST_READ=UNIX_TIMESTAMP(), will grab whatever the current unix time is, so you don't have to think about the number.. ps: you can leave off the where clause, if you just want to do a blanket reset for all members..

I'd like to vote for a feature "Mark all PT's Read" which just runs that query for the specified user... Have it on the PT index page... walah..

I had a similar issue after having upgraded to 7.3.
it seemed connected to deleting unread PM's without reading them first.
Had to database dive to correct.
