Current having a problem with users getting registered on my forum which is running version 6.7.3.

The user goes through the process of registering and gets the email with a temporary password. But, when they try to login in for the first time they are told the password is incorrect.

The member's cgi file is created, but they don't appear to fully registered as they show up in the Last 50 members register list listed only with a profile number everything else is missing (Public Name, email address, etc) and the user record is marked as banned. These ghost users can't even be deleted via the control panel. Additionally, the system thinks they are registered because you can't attempt to re-register with the same info...

Is this something that can be fixed by rebuilding Member Metadata? Or do I need to delete the members cgi file and have them re-register.

Are you using email validation? If so, the password isn't valid until the link is clicked...

Once a user registers on the Classic and I think on the Threads the name for both log in and display name is placed in a used name file and never can be used again, even if they were not approved.

It can be done, just all 3 files have to be carefully edited - but only if the emaillist and memberlist files were populated with the user's name. It sounds like the registration was corrupted - delete the account and ask them to try again.
