I have seen a few posts on this subject lately. With the current version even if you go through all the permission settings some items such as some islands are still viewable when registering. This seems to bother people used to classic where the board was completely closed to guests. Maybe it is time to add back in a global setting to completely close all features to a guest until registered.

I think that all islands should have permissions for showing. Currently in Site Permissions is "Can see the shoutbox." Why is that the only island with permissions? Probably permissions should be added to the Portal Layout page, and the shoutbox viewing permissions be moved there.

Well now we have unlimited islands available even with the stock install starting off with 30 something islands it could get out of hand with a permission setting for each island. Can't imagine having 100 islands but it is feasible I guess.

What is still displaying to guests that you don't want them to see?

Every island not turned off in permissions. At first glance they don't display When you start to register the portal islands appear. Things such as WOL, Calendar, Gallery,ETC

At the top of every script file there is:
"regonly" => 0, "admin_only" => 0, "admin_or_mod" => 0,
You can set the regonly to "1" for the pieces you don't want guests to have access to.

For instance the online_now file. Where do you edit it. In the cache_builders folder I assume. I don't see the items you mentioned. Also What happens when you add 20 custom Islands. Just keep editing?

DonB is the one that has the real issue. If you visit his site at http://www.lostcoastcachers.comWhen you try to register you will see a couple of islands even though permissions don't allow you to visit them. He only wants the FAQ visible to guests until registered. We had a long discussion on this item a while back on this site.
