1. How do you delete all PM's in the systems that are older than 30, 60, or 90 days... or one year?
2. How do you make that annoying flashing envelope stop when there are no messages?
This happens when you delete users that sent PM's The PM's get deleted but the envelope keeps on flashing
3. What would be the database command to be able to read all PM's that says certain words like "viagra" for example? To find the Spammers
Thank you

You seem to have a lot of interest in issues with UBB today. Some of the items you have posted about have been addressed in recent releases. If I might ask what is the URL to you UBB site and or what version are you currently using?

I use 7.3 and getting ready to update now Just trying to make a list of the modifications I will have to ad to the upgrade. If the list gets to long I think I will just wait for the next release.
The latest version allows you to prune PM's? My users write more PM's than posts

Is there a way to delete PM's I would like to delete all private topics without replies in the past 30 days and want a way to keep the number of PM's under control... Do not like to delete inactive accounts to achieve this How can it be done?
I use 7.5.3

Currently, there is no way to delete just pms or private topics through the control panel. The only thing you can do is enforce a quota by using the site permissions to limit the number that can be stored by each user.

But i have 14000 pm's as a result of an error in the last upgrade and my quota is 10000... at least before admin had an unlimited quota Deleting them 30 at a time is asking too much for the admin... And if you lower the quota that doesn ot delete the PM's in 200 000 user accounts... the number of useless pm's is slowing the whole board and taking up resources it should not

After several hundred clicks I managed to delete them all manually from my mailbox and only from my mailbox... The nice thing is that the flashing envelope continues to blink non stop even without PM's. My guess is that it is to remind me of the many unread PM's I releted... :-) I really do not understand how delete old PM;s in all accounts is not an admin option

Another issue I have with PM's Why are the PM's from deleted members not deleted?
When a user is deleted all his PM's should, in my opinion, be deleted too. Who do we delete? Spammers. But their Spam remain. Not good!

When a user is deleted all his PM's should, in my opinion, be deleted too. Who do we delete? Spammers. But their Spam remain. Not good! I tend to agree. I have never deleted a member since upgrading to the 7.x series. So I had to look, there are two methods to delete. One is selecting from a list of members and check the action list at the bottom. Which does not give any options. The second method is expand the details on one member at a time, which is what I tried. You are then given options to delete the posts. Which I did. But the PM's remain from the user. I then tried the rebuild option to "Prune Orphaned Private Topics". Still no luck All that happened is the PM shows from anonymous now. But of course the caveat is, another member may have a post or PM from the deleted member that they wish to preserve.

As a user of a forum, should i have an ongoing conversation with someone and, for whatever reason, their account gets deleted, I'd be extremely pissed to see my PT's pruned and the conversation log with them removed just because they where deleted...

that makes no sense... it is not like admins are going to delete the nice people you want to exchange info with... admins delete spammers and solicitors... and they delete people because they post things admins do not want on the site...
Maybe you need more spammers here to start noticing what needs to be done...

like if i PM'ed all users here promoting another message board software and some false rumors about admin... you would want all those pm removed and fast...

A lot of admins purge user accounts at user request, so it does make perfect sense at several communities that I belong to...
And we do get spammers here, they just usually get nuked

We'll probably look into putting an optional checkbox at the time of deletion to remove private messages as well.
